Dumsor: ECG Announces 9-Hour Maintenance Power Cuts in Tema and Ashanti

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced planned maintenance works in parts of Tema and the Ashanti Region that will result in temporary power interruptions from August 10.

The power distributor issued notices on August 9, stating that the exercise is meant to improve its services.

Per the notice on Facebook, power cuts in Tema and Kumasi are scheduled to run from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

The affected areas in Tema include Sakumono, Devtraco Estates and the Catholic Youth Centre.

In the Ashanti Region, the areas set to be affected include Trede, Barekese Headworks, Ahodwo and Offinso.

ECG urges residents to prepare

The power distributor has noted that the maintenance exercise forms part of its broader commitment to upgrading electricity infrastructure and enhancing reliability for customers across the region.

The company expressed regret over the inconvenience the outages would cause affected residents and advised them to take note of the schedule in advance.

Residents in the listed communities are encouraged to make alternative arrangements during the stated hours to minimise disruption to daily activities and businesses.

The company also earlier released a schedule for a series of planned power outages across multiple communities in the Accra West Region, set to run from Monday, August 10 to Thursday, August 13, 2026.

On August 10, residents in Nyamekye, Mab Hospital, Darkuman and their surrounding communities will be without power.

ECG boss issues update on dumsor

YEN.com.gh reported that the Electricity Company of Ghana commented on power supply issues earlier in the year.

Speaking at a press conference on April 20, the company's manager, Kwame Kpekpena, apologised to Ghanaians over the power cuts which are now a weekly occurrence.

His apology came amid persistent power fluctuations in parts of the country, causing inconvenience and, in some cases, damage to homes and businesses.
