“Dissociate Yourself From Akufo-Addo, He Caused 2024 Defeat”: Prof Ransford Gyampo to NPP

Professor Ransford Gyampo, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers' Authority, entreated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to distance itself a bit from former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to Prof Ransford Gyampo, presenting the former president as the front of the party sends wrong signals to Ghanaians.

In a video on X, Prof Ransford Gyampo described ex-President Akufo-Addo as a ‘politically bad omen’ that caused the defeat of the NPP in the 2024 elections.
“If they don’t know, I am still telling them that President Akufo-Addo was one key factor who led to their defeat. So, in going to that funeral and asking him to lead that delegation, it’s a way of telling Ghanaians that we still have not even learnt.”
“He is a retired President. Let him retire, let him rest, let him take it easy, try to look for a candidate who will take over from him, and then don’t bring the ‘politically bad omen’ that he has,” he added.
His comment comes after former President Akufo-Addo led the NPP to the one-week commemoration of the late Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, held at Akyem Wenchi Funeral Grounds in the Eastern Region.

Prof Ransford Gyampo said he expects the party to allow Akufo-Addo to take a behind-the-scenes role while they get a flagbearer whom they will build the party around.
“People voted against President Akufo-Addo and not Vice President Bawumia in the 2024 elections. So, I’m expecting the party to do all they can to dissociate themselves a little from them and rebuild themselves and let him be the elderly statesman to help behind the scenes. But to let him lead frontally will hurt them.”

Prof Gyampo makes 9-point proposal to Akufo-Addo
YEN.com.gh reported that Prof Ransford Gyampo wrote an open letter to Nana Akufo-Addo about the worsening Ghanaian economic situation.
The open letter contained a nine-point proposal to the then president on how to get the economy back on track.
