Jackson, who earns a good salary at Chelsea, joined Bayern on loan amid high expectations and was expected to bolster their attacking options this season.

The transfer was a lengthy process, with Chelsea initially cancelling the deal following Liam Delap’s injury.

Jackson had been in Munich, ready to finalise the move, but the transfer eventually went through after the West London club chose to recall Marc Guiu from Sunderland.

According to TalkSPORT, the agreement included a clause obligating Bayern to sign the former Villarreal forward for £56.2 million if specific conditions were met.

Despite this, the 24-year-old’s long-term future is already uncertain, as Bayern Munich appears to be reconsidering his role at the club.

Nicolas Jackson to return to Chelsea

Bayern Munich’s honorary president, Hoeneß, spoke to SPORT1, cited by the Evening Standard, and provided clarity on Nicolas Jackson’s deal.

He explained that the loan fee isn’t the full €16.5 million, as the player and his agent are contributing €3 million, reducing the club’s share to €13.5 million.

He also confirmed that there is no plan for a permanent transfer at this stage, emphasising that a permanent move would only be triggered if Jackson started 40 games, which the club does not expect the Senegalese to reach.

Meanwhile, the Bayern Munich honorary president also reflected on their broader transfer strategy while discussing Nicolas Jackson’s situation.

He revealed the club missed out on Florian Wirtz, who joined Liverpool, and noted that Newcastle may have overpaid for one of their Alexander Isak replacements, signing Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for a club-record fee.

Despite these developments, he emphasised Bayern’s satisfaction with their squad, describing them as the “real winners of the summer transfer window,” with minimal need for reinforcement.

This context highlights why Jackson’s loan deal is seen more as a short-term addition rather than a long-term investment in the team.

Nicolas Jackson's stats

According to Transfermarkt, Nicolas Jackson tallied 13 goals and six assists in 37 matches across all competitions for Chelsea during the 2024/25 season after racking up 17 goals and six assists in the previous campaign.

Despite these impressive returns, the 24-year-old was still viewed as not quite the ideal centre-forward for Chelsea, given the demands of a Premier League outfit, which paved the way for his move to Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day this summer.

Chelsea wanted Kolo Muani

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Chelsea were reportedly interested in signing Randal Kolo Muani as a replacement for Nicolas Jackson.

This was when Enzo Maresca was understood to be in search of a centre-forward ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season, but the French player ended up joining Thomas Frank's Tottenham Hotspur.
