Despite the promise of silverware and Champions League nights at the Allianz Arena, Sterling firmly declined Bayern’s advances.
Raheem Sterling Frozen out at Chelsea
Instead of a fresh start in Germany, Sterling now finds himself on the fringes at Stamford Bridge. He has been placed in Enzo Maresca’s so-called “bomb squad,” a group of players excluded from first-team action after failing to secure summer exits.
Alongside the likes of Axel Disasi, the winger faces months of training away from the spotlight until the January market provides another chance for a move.
Why did Sterling reject Bayern Munich move?
According to The Athletic, Sterling refused to go to Bayern Munich because of family considerations. The 29-year-old wanted to remain in London, where his partner and children are settled.
A short-term switch abroad, without any guarantees of playing time, did not outweigh the stability of keeping his family together.
Per the same source, there were tentative talks over a possible loan within the capital, with a few Premier League rivals exploring the idea. However, those discussions never progressed, leaving Sterling stranded at Cobham when the window closed.
Meanwhile, complicating matters further is Sterling’s lucrative Chelsea contract. According to Transfermarkt, the forward is tied to the club until 2027 on a deal worth around £30 million ($40m) in wages.
That financial commitment also makes a transfer highly difficult, as few clubs can afford such a package and Sterling himself is unlikely to walk away from it.

In the Premier League alone, Sterling has scored 123 goals and provided 75 assists in across 396 appearances.

Chelsea to offload Sterling and 9 players
In an earlier report, YEN.com.gh revealed that Chelsea are planning a major squad overhaul, with as many as 10 players, including Raheem Sterling, who as expected to leave Stamford Bridge.
The Blues' head coach Enzo Maresca does not see the ex-Manchester City winger as one of the player he would rely on in the curent season.
