Peace FM's Maa Afia Konadu is dead

Veteran broadcaster Maame Afia Konadu of Peace FM fame has passed away, YEN.com.gh can report.

According to reports YEN.com.gh monitored on Peace FM, Maa Afia, as she was affectionately called, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

The veteran broadcaster had taken ill in the United States of America where she had been staying after her retirement from radio.

Born Henrietta Twum, Maa Afia started her professional life as a teacher before she later joined the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) to start her radio career.

After many years at GBC, she was poached by Osei Kwame Despite for his Peace FM which had then just started.

And for over 15 years, she became the motherly figure at the station which grew to become one of the most popular in Ghana.

During her time, she brought up and hosted shows like Wo Haw Ne Sɛn? and Asomdwoe Nkomo which had experts providing solutions to problems listeners were facing.

Apart from her shows, Maa Afia featured prominently in many of the Akan language commercials that were played on radio.

She retired from Peace FM in 2015 at the age of 65 years, 45 of which had been spent working.

Maa Afia would have been 69 on November 17.
