Seven years ago, today, July 24, 2012, our nation was struck with unquenchable grief and agony when President John Atta Mills departed to his maker.

He was a man who would be remembered for many was as he stood for the highest ideals of leadership and for the greatest aspirations of our democracy.

YEN.com.gh has however gathered 7 memorable things that Ghanaians would always remember the late former president, John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills for.

1. Asomdwee Hene

During his tenure of office as president of Ghana, a lot of people referred to Atta Mills as the 'Asomdwee hene'. He probably earned this name due to his meek nature and his calm approach to topical issues that affected the state.

2. Gbaa alert

People make mistakes on a daily basis. But one mistake Ghanaians would never forget is one mistake the late President Mills made. Instead of 'economy', the past president said 'ecominy'. This mistake trended for days and even months. Some even went ahead to make jingles out of the mistake made by the president. Oh Ghana.

3.Favorite prefix to a statement

Before the late president addressed any gathering, be it a personal or state gathering, the words "my brothers and sisters", always preceded his comment or speech. This simply act of brotherliness and friendship made him a really adorable statesman.

4. Only sitting president that died

It will forever remain in the memory of all Ghanaians when the news broke on the death of the then President of Ghana. On July 24, 2012 it was announced that President Atta Mills passed away after he was rushed to the hospital when he unexpectedly feel sick.

5. Dancing to shame critics

It was rumored by certain propagandists that the then President Atta-Mills was seriously ill and bed ridden. Due to that, it was reported that he had travelled out of the country to seek medical attention. However, upon his return from a trip abroad, he danced at the airport to show the media present that he was fit.

6. Reduction in SHS Duration

Government fulfilled a campaign and manifesto promise to reduce the duration of SHS (formerly SSS) from 4 to 3 years. That extension itself had no strong technical basis and the NPP government failed to put in place infrastructure development plans that ensured that the needed classrooms, dormitories, libraries, dining and assembly halls etc, were in place for the implementation. Government will thus focus on quality infrastructure, logistics and motivation of teachers other than mere expansion in duration.

Laid nine (9) major health bills in Cabinet including the NHIS Bill for one-time premium payment

Sod-cutting for the construction of additional 500 bed facility at the 37 Military Hospital to enhance status as National Emergency Health Centre

Installation of MRI at 37 Military Hospital for effective health delivery
