It has emerged that Ghana was the first country in the world to receive Peace Corps Volunteers in the year 1961.
On August 28, 1961, then United States president, John F. Kennedy, hosted a ceremony at the Rose Garden of the White House.
The purpose, YEN.com.gh understands, was to honour the first group of Peace Corps Volunteers who left to work in Ghana and Tanzania.
Two days after the ceremony, they arrived in Ghana to work as teachers in various educational institutions.
A photo of them gathered in the garden with Kennedy, as shared by the US Embassy in Ghana, has surfaces online and attracted applause from social media users:
