Mensah won the hearts of many Ghanaians with his dazzling skills on the field play.
His defensive abilities were top-notch and that propelled him to play for top European clubs.

The bulky defender can boast of over two huge mansions in Accra, precisely East Legon and Trasacco.
Taking a look at his garage, it would be seen that he owns expensive cars that have a collective estimated value of some $650,000.

Mensah was born in Obuasi and he is a product of the scouting system in Ghana that identifies talented youngsters long before they enter any formal structures and exports them to potential fame and fortune in Europe.
Mensah's first foreign adventure was as a teenager when he moved to Italy to join Bologna.
The Serie A outfit recognised his talent, but also saw that his potential was in its rawest form and, as such, loaned him to Swiss side Bellinzona, where it was hoped that he would hone his talents.

Mensah's lack of speed was the reason many scouts overlooking his talent but he has shown great positioning and awareness
In 2001, Mensah was part of Ghana’s team that finished second at the U-20 World Cup which came off in Argentina.
He has played two FIFA World Cups for Ghana – Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010.
Mensah has featured for top European clubs like, Bologna, Rennes, Sunderland, Modena, etc.
He has capped 86 times for Ghana, scoring three goals in the process.
