Akufo-Addo is in Niger - Eugene Arhin denies 'president rushed to hospital' video

- President Akufo-Addo's spokesman Eugene Arhin has denied reports that his boss was rushed to a hospital

- The reports surfaced after a video of the president's convoy inside the premises of Nyaho clinic popped up

- But according to Eugene Arhin, President Akufo-Addo went to the hospital to visit someone

- He added that the president is safe and currently on his way to an ECOWAS summit

Reports have gone viral on social media following the emergence video which suggested President Akufo-Addo had been rushed to the Nyaho Medical Centre in Accra for medical treatment.

In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, Akufo-Addo's convoy was seen on the premises of the hospital and the commentary accompanying it claimed that the president had suddenly taken ill and had been rushed for treatment.

But in a swift response, the presidential communication director has denied the video of his boss falling sick and being rushed to a hospital.

"This video is making the rounds on some social media platforms, and, unsurprisingly, some of our friends from the opposition, are claiming, with glee, that the President was rushed to the Nyaho Clinic. For the avoidance of doubt, no such thing happened," he stated in a statement on Facebook on Friday, November 8, 2019.

According to Eugene Arhin, President Akufo-Addo is currently in Niamey in Niger on his way to an ECOWAS Extraordinary summit.

He said: "The President, at the moment, is in Niamey, capital of Niger, attending the ECOWAS Extraordinary Session on Guinea Bissau."

On the video itself, Arhin explained that President Akufo-Addo visited Tommy Amematekpor, a stalwart of the NPP, who is on admission at the Clinic.

"The President on Wednesday, 6th November, after commissioning the Ga-East District Hospital, in Kwabenya, en route to Jubilee House, went to the Nyaho Clinic to visit Mr Tommy Amematekpor, a stalwart of the NPP, who is on admission at the Clinic," Arhin explained.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo celebrated with Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as he turned 60 years on Thursday, November 7, 2019.
