The Democratic Farmer-Labor-Party legislator argued that since the US is not a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC), then domestic courts should pursue justice.

In a tweet, the 38-year-old argued the three mentioned groups had committed 'unthinkable atrocities' but did not divulge details.

"We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the US, Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban."

United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the US and Israel were not parties to ICC and as such, an investigation into the alleged crimes by the international court was not in order.

Omar's remarks sparked reactions across the US and the globe:

New York congress representative Lee Zeldin called for her ouster from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

"Ilhan Omar must be removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. She should have never been appointed to this committee in the first place."
