• The arrest took place on Christmas during an intelligence operation that involved police

The Ghana Navy Riverine Command impounded 81 sacks of a substance suspected to be narcotics.

Six suspects were also arrested over the trafficking of the narcotic substances.

The arrests occurred on December 25, 2023, at 8 pm during an intelligence operation.

The navy was trying to prevent the possible movement of the suspected substance from its source to land.

According to a press release from the armed forces, the contraband was being loaded at a warehouse at the Ghana Highways Authority premises in Ada.

Through a collaboration between the Ghana Navy and Ghana Police, the Narcotics Control Commission was informed about the operation.

The suspects were arrested with the confiscated exhibits and transported to the NACOC Headquarters in Accra for further investigation and necessary action.

2 Police officers arrested over alleged drug trafficking

Two police officers were arrested for having narcotics on them for suspected drug trafficking.

The officers were granted bail at the Gbetsile Circuit Court after they were arraigned and charged.

Police found eight sacks containing 541 compressed parcels of substances believed to be narcotics in their possession.

Momo vendor jailed for impersonating police officer

A mobile money merchant was jailed after pretending to be the Oti Regional Police Commander to release a friend in police custody.

The merchant was jailed for six months with hard labour because of his false pretence attempt.

The merchant's friend had been arrested for possessing narcotic substances at Teshie Bush Road.

Nigerian women jailed for sex trafficking

YEN.com.gh reported earlier that two Nigerian women were jailed for 10 years and seven years with hard labour after a sex trafficking conviction.

The two women cried in court when sentenced on trafficking charges and begged to be sent back to Nigeria.

The four trafficking victims were in number and all Nigerian nationals, according to testimony in the Tarkwa Circuit Court.
