2025 WASSCE: University of Ghana Student Jailed For Impersonating Twin Brother During Exam

A University of Ghana student was among some recent suspects jailed for examination malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The first-year student, Amedeka James, was jailed by the Kasoa-Ofaakor District Magistrate Court for impersonating his twin brother, Amedeka Justice.

Adom News reported that one other person, Kwame Oteng Nkansah, a Level 100 student of Accra Technical University, was jailed for six months and fined 80 penalty units after impersonating Quayson Francis Atta of Ghana College SHS.
Samuel Armah, a teacher at Ghana College SHS and an invigilator, was caught with leaked answers to the Social Studies Paper 1 on his mobile phone and dictating them to candidates.

Armah was fined 80 penalty units and sentenced to eight months in prison.
WAEC shuts down WASSCE exam centre in Kumasi
The crackdown on exam cheating led to the shutdown of an examination centre in Kumasi on September 4 after uncovering examination malpractices.
The incident at the Adventist Day Senior High School in Kumasi led to the relocation of 936 candidates to the regional WAEC office.
The affected candidates will write their English Language paper under strict supervision at the regional office.
Asaase News reported that WAEC officials have not provided additional information about the incident to the press.
WAEC probes teacher caught with leaked questions
Before this, an invigilator at Armed Forces SHS in Burma Camp in Accra was caught with leaked WASSCE questions on his phone during a routine inspection.
The WAEC team grew suspicious due to the invigilator’s attire and later discovered exam questions on his device.
The examination body took possession of his phone and has demanded a written explanation from the teacher while it probes the incident.
The Ghana Education Service previously warned that any supervisor or invigilator caught engaging in examination malpractice will be dismissed.
Its own officials have been implicated in alleged corruption.

Some officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES) were caught allegedly collaborating with invigilators to facilitate exam cheating during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
A Joy News investigative report indicated that they were receiving as little as GH¢60 as bribes.
One of the schools noted was the Derby Avenue RC Basic School in Accra.
Over there, investigators found that invigilators were promised GH¢60 daily to allow students to smuggle mobile phones into the school.
About the ongoing 2025 WASSCE
YEN.com.gh reported that the 2025 WASSCE began on August 5 with practical tests. The written papers began on August 20 and will end on September 19.
The candidates will be sitting for 65 subjects in all, and each of them will be taking an average of eight subjects.

A total of 461,640 candidates are taking the 2025 WASSCE, comprising 207,381 male candidates and 254,259 female candidates.
The examination will be conducted in about 701 examination centres across the country.
