Rumours of the veteran media personality's reported demise emerged on Saturday, September 20, 2025, with some of his colleagues, including Edem Mensah-Tsotorme, later confirming the unfortunate news on social media.
The cause of Clifford Owusu's sudden demise is unknown, with some reports claiming that he had been battling a short illness.
The passing of the award-winning entertainment journalist, who, through his Beatwaves channel, promoted the Ghanaian creative arts industry, comes as a massive loss in the media space.

Who was George Clifford Owusu?
George Clifford Owusu was a veteran journalist who served as the entertainment editor at the prominent Ghanaian media platform, Daily Guide.
On Saturday, November 30, 2024, he was honoured with the Best Entertainment Journalist/Blogger Award at the Musicians’ Organisation Global (MUSIGLO) event held at the Prestige Suite Hotel in Osu, Accra.
The Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Simone Giger and other top names in the entertainment industry were also present at the maiden award ceremony in Ghana.
In 2024, he expressed interest in entering politics. He declared his intention to contest for the Akyem Swedru parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the December 7 elections.
Despite his public declaration, Clifford Owusu, who had been in the media space for over 20 years, was unsuccessful in his attempt to get on the ballot of the elections, which was won by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Kennedy Osei Nyarko of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to YEN.com.gh, entertainment analyst Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh shared his thoughts on George Clifford Owusu's demise and its impact on the music industry.

Amoako Darkwa's colleagues, including Kofi Adoma Nwanwani and Saeed Hamid Jallo, mourned his untimely demise with emotional tributes on social media.

Akufo-Addo mourns Kantanka after his demise
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Nana Akufo-Addo mourned Kantanka, days after his demise, with an emotional tribute.
In a video, the former president and top NPP officials visited the late inventor's residence to console his grieving family.
Akufo-Addo recounted his past with the late Apostle Safo Kantanka, whom he had represented as his personal lawyer.
