In recent years, the Sarkcess Music record label CEO has been accused of having an affiliation with the main opposition party after he praised former president Nana Akufo-Addo in his 2020 hit single, Happy Day, which featured former Lynx Entertainment signee Kuami Eugene.
Rapper Sarkodie's use of the phrase 'Nana Toaso' in the song was seen by many as an endorsement of the former President, who campaigned with that slogan as he vied for a second term in office during the 2020 general elections.

Sarkodie speaks on alleged NPP affiliation
On Thursday, September 25, 2025, Sarkodie attended the Kumasi Rising Music, Media, and Tourism Dialogue event as a guest speaker at the IDL Conference Hall in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
In a conversation with media personality Serwaa Amihere, the rapper, who is preparing for his highly anticipated upcoming Rapperholic Homecoming concert, denied having any connection with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Sarkodie stated that he did not know any official from the main opposition party and had not taken any money to campaign for them, remarking:
"Do I have a connection with the NPP? I do not know any member of the party. People keep saying that I did a song for them, but they have not given me any money. I said a line in a verse about our ex-president, for which I still stand by."
The BET Award winner stated that he only supported former President Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party's Free education policy during his tenure.
Sarkodie also noted that he had never had the opportunity to meet political leaders and hold discussions about the Ghanaian entertainment industry, commenting:
"I was all for the Free Education policy. I am still in support of it, and I will praise it. Whether you bash me or not, I will still stand for it. I have not had the opportunity to sit with people in power."

Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh on Sarkodie's alleged NPP affiliation
Speaking to YEN.com.gh, entertainment analyst Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh shared his thoughts on the allegations about Sarkodie's NPP affiliation and how an artiste's perceived political affiliation affects their career and fanbase in Ghana's entertainment industry.
He said:
"People are entitled to their political ideologies, and it’s sad in Ghana, we sometimes make it hard for creatives to share their minds when it comes to politics."
"If you don’t have a solid fan base, dabbling in politics can curtail your career. So, as creatives or public figures, be sure it won’t affect you negatively before coming out with your affiliations."
