Webkid Africa Sends Strong Messages to Asantehene, Nana Addo and Top Officials

Content creator Webkid Africa has gone on an apology spree, releasing a series of videos directed at several prominent Ghanaian figures and institutions he says he had offended in the past.

The apology videos come months after Webkid, a known Shatta Wale fan and X influencer, was granted GH¢100,000 bail with two sureties by the Accra High Court on June 22, 2026, following six weeks in police custody.

He faces six counts, including publishing false news and offensive conduct online, with fellow musician Stonebwoy confirmed as the complainant in the case.

Webkid's legal troubles have kept him in the spotlight for much of the year, and the fresh apology videos appear to form part of a wider effort to make amends publicly.

Webkid apologises to Asantehene and Asanteman

The apology to the Asantehene traces back to an old tweet Webkid shared on January 12, 2025, at 8:10 AM, criticising a statement made by the Asante monarch. I

In the post, which has since drawn 207,500 views, he wrote:

"Is unfortunate, for Asantehene to make that statement, is world Bank dealing with tribes or Nation, when did Otumfuor realized this, is it that now NDC is power, I think Otumfuor should be guided by the elders around him? Common chief!"

The comment drew immediate backlash, with one user replying:

"Everyday you dey attack someone." Webkid responded at the time, defending his post with: "I speak facts."

In the first video, filmed selfie-style against a plain grey wall and paired with archival footage of Ashanti royalty, Webkid addressed the Asantehene and the people of Asanteman directly.

He said:

"I'm not here to justify anything. What is wrong is wrong... I'm here to render an apology. A heartfelt one to the people of Asante Ma'en and Nyeru Asante Henne."

He described himself as having been "young, stupid and naive," admitting his past online conduct had "stepped on so many toes."

Webkid, who identified himself as a Northerner in the video, went on to draw a historical connection between Northerners and the Ashanti people, closing the apology by describing the two groups as "all family."

In a second video, filmed backstage with a curtain visible behind him and a static photo collage of three officials pinned at the top of the frame, Webkid extended his apology to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the former Chief Justice, and former Inspector-General of Police George Akuffo Dampare.

He said:

"I overreacted due to how hard the system was on us... I really stepped on so many toes. Honestly speaking, I'm very, very sorry for all the toes that I stepped. Real life lessons learned. There's more room for improvement. No one is perfect. So please, you people should forgive your boy."

He acknowledged the right to free speech but stressed that criticism should be delivered constructively, "devoid of insults."

Fans fear rearrest over Stonebwoy comments

According to an earlier report by YEN.com.gh, Webkid sparked concern online after making a sarcastic comment about Stonebwoy, referencing an old hug incident involving Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale amid their ongoing feud.

Fans flooded social media, warning him that the comment could land him in trouble again, given his existing legal case with Stonebwoy as the complainant.
