The Pope has offered some advice to mothers worried their sons are delaying getting married and settling in life.

Pope Francis has asked the frustrated mums to toughen their love by stopping ironing their son's shirts and encouraging them to get married.

Speaking to the Catholic mums during a mass service to mark the end of the 10th World Meeting of Families at the Vatican in Rome over the weekend, the head of the Catholic church said:

"We see so many young men who don't have the courage to get married and mothers often say to me 'do something, speak to my son, who is not getting married and is 37-years-old'.
But Signora, don't iron his shirts, make the first move by sending him out, let him leave the nest," as reported by Wales Online.

The 85-year-old, who has neither been married nor has children of his own, also challenged the adult men to face obstacles they meet in life.

Difficult moments

He assured them of tough times but implored them to never give up by returning to their mother's house for refuge.

"And then, in the moments of difficulty, in crises – all families have them – please don't take the easy road: 'I'm going back to mum. 'No, move ahead with this courageous gamble.

There will be difficult moments, hard moments, but move ahead, always," he stated.

The religious leader added that familial love was never possessive but always gave freedom, as he encouraged mothers to push their sons to marry.
