Travis Hall, a 44-year-old resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida, recently walked into a local Publix grocery store with the sole intention of grabbing a sandwich.
Little did he know that this unassuming visit would transform his life as he scratched his way to a staggering $5 million (KSh 736.5m) prize from a $20 (KSh 2,946) Monopoly Doubler lottery ticket.

"I stopped at Publix to grab a sub and decided to try my luck with a $20 Scratch-Off. Little did I know, it would turn into a $5 million-dollar win!" said Hall.
The Florida Lottery, in an official press release, emphasised the incredible stroke of luck that led to Hall's windfall.
The $20 (KSh 2,946) Monopoly Doubler scratch-off game offers a potential total prize pool of $493 million (KSh 72.7 b), featuring a mere eight top prizes, each valued at $5 million (KSh 736.5m).

Hall's hands were trembling
The overall odds of clinching a win in this game are pegged at 1-in-3.02.
Although Hall did not immediately grasp his newfound fortune, he shared the suspenseful days that followed his purchase, recounting,
"After waiting days to scratch the ticket, I handed it to my wife — my hands were trembling from disbelief at what I was seeing."
In a financially astute move, Hall opted for a one-time, lump-sum payment of $3,994,698 (KSh 588.5 million).
Additionally, the retailer responsible for selling the winning ticket will be rewarded with a substantial $10,000 (KSh 1.5m )bonus commission, per Florida Lottery regulations.

In a similar story, a California resident was smiling all the way to the bank after winning the world's greatest jackpot in a national lottery.
Guinness World Records reported that Edwin Castro was announced as the winner of a whopping $2.05 billion (KSh 257 billion).
