Donations Pour in for Children of Helicopter Crash Victims, Over GH¢3.5M and US$20,000 Raised
- The Presidency has received over GH¢3.5 million and US$20,000 in donations for the Children Support Fund
- The fund will support the children of eight Ghanaians who died in the August 6 helicopter crash
- Donors include 14 individuals and institutions showing solidarity with the affected families

The Presidency has announced that a total of GH¢3,576,600.00 and US$20,000 have been received in donations to the Children Support Fund set up for the welfare of children of the victims of the August 6 helicopter crash tragedy.
According to a statement signed by the Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, who doubles as the coordinator of the fund, Dr Valerie Sawyer, 14 companies and individuals have donated to support the children's welfare.

The fund is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the children's education, health, and overall welfare.

Apostle Okai hails donations for crash orphans
Reacting to this in a discussion with YEN.com.gh, Apostle Okai, senior pastor at the Elim Church in Accra, expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the families affected by the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians.
He noted that the outpouring of support from 14 individuals and institutions, totalling GH¢3,576,600 and US$20,000 for the Children Support Fund, was a testament to the compassion and solidarity of the Ghanaian people.
"My heart goes out to the families affected by the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians. The outpouring of support from 14 individuals and institutions, totalling GH¢3,576,600 and US$20,000 for the Children Support Fund, is a testament to the compassion and solidarity of the Ghanaian people," he said.
"I commend the Presidency's initiative to establish the Children Support Fund to ensure the welfare, education, and healthcare of the children left behind. The transparency and accountability promised by the Presidency will undoubtedly foster trust among donors and the public. The generosity and unity displayed by Ghanaians in this time of need are truly inspiring. Victims of the helicopter crash
On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, eight prominent Ghanaians, including five government officials and three crew members, lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash.
The helicopter was en route to Obuasi when contact was lost shortly after taking off from Accra at 9:12 a.m.
The victims were Ghana's Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Deputy National Security Coordinator, Limuna Muniru; former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong; and former NDC Parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagy.

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, who were on board the helicopter as crew members, also lost their lives.
Aside from Ernest Addo Mensah, the remaining seven victims left behind children, and the fund set up by the government will go a long way towards supporting their welfare.
Helicopter crash victims buried
A mass burial service was held for the six Christian victims of the helicopter crash on Friday, August 15, 2025.
However, the late Dr Murtala Mohammed and Alhaji Muniru, who were both Muslims, had been buried earlier on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the Military Cemetery in Accra.
This was followed by a three-day adua (final rites), which took place in Accra and Tamale on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Mahama honours men who retrieved crash victims
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that President John Dramani Mahama rewarded the 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu who helped recover the remains of the victims of the helicopter crash.
The men received GH¢100,000 and were offered jobs as a token of the government's appreciation.
Many people hailed the president and his government for showing appreciation to the farmers with the thoughtful gift.
