- A pastor sparks controversy by saying that persons who pay tithes are goats
- According to the man of God, tithes are paid to jet-flying pastors to the neglect of the poor
Nigerian on-air personality, Daddy Freeze, has waded in the ongoing debate over whether tithing is a requirement of every Christian, insisting those who pay their tithes are “goats.”
According to him, Christians of today have deviated from what God want from them and have rather chosen to give their monies to pastors to spend rather than to the poor.
He referred to the act of tithing as a “misguided notion,” saying the poor are the right people to give such monies to, not jet-flying pastors who already have enough.
His comments come after General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, said those who don’t pay their tithes will not go to heaven.
Speaking to fellow pastors during the April edition of the monthly Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption Camp, the preacher said: “I want to give every one of you pastors an opportunity to repent tonight.
And then to go back, immediately after this convention, to restitute your ways with your congregation.
Make it clear to them…Anyone who is not paying his tithe is not going to heaven, full stop.”
However, Daddy Freeze believes there is nowhere in the Bible that states that Christians should pay tithes to pastors, adding that the Bible rather directs Christians to give to the poor and needy.
“A lot of people live by the misguided notion, that when they pay tithes to a pastor they are paying it to God. Here is what the Bible says. Matthew 25:33 KJV And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. The Goats, as we can see, clearly stated by the Bible, are moved to the left. What qualifies a person to be labelled a ‘Goat’, and what punishment awaits them? Then shall he say also unto them (goats) on the left hand, depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Being counted among the goats that qualify for hellfire is very easy and it has nothing to do with tithing. There is nowhere in the Bible, where Jesus or God can be quoted saying: “if you give your money to a priest, pastor, man of God or church you have given it to God. On the contrary, Jesus clearly states that if you give your money to the poor, the sick, those in prison or those hungry, you have given it to him,” the presenter asserted.
