For the first time a female student has won the SRC Presidential contest to the delight of her supporters.
Quick-witted female student, Zeinab Mohammed Denderi, has beaten expectations to make history after being elected the Central Students Representative Council (SRC) President at Ghana's premier university in the northern region, University for Development Studies (UDS).
Her clinch to victory is an important feat which makes a strong statement in the student body politics of UDS.

The level 300 student who faced a strong challenge was not expected to do well in a male dominated contest but surprised the student body after trashing four other candidates to emerge winner with a 10 vote margin at the Nyankpala campus.
“The SRC President-Elect had a total of 761 votes representing 50.3% of the total valid votes cast while her contender had a total of 751 votes, representing 49.7% of the total valid votes cast. She therefore won with a total of 10 votes.” It was announced to wild jubilation on campus.
A court injunction by a Temale High Court had the election date changed after a contestant, Mr. Abubakari Abdul-Halim, vying for general secretary challenged the credibility of the voters’ register .
Ghana's top tertiary institution in Tamale, the University for Development Studies, was established in 1992 as a multi-campus institution. It is the fifth public university to be created in the country.
It was established with the three northern regions of North Ghana in mind. The four separate campuses include Wa Campus in the Upper West Region, Navrongo campus in the Upper East Region, Nyankpala and Tamale Campuses in the Northern Region but government has announced plans to make all these three autonomous.
