NDC decries harassment and malicious prosecution of Ofosu-Ampofo

- NDC has condemned the “politically-motivated persecution” of its Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo

- According to the party's General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, charges brought against its national chairman is an attempt by the NPP government to gag the political opposition

General Secretary of the opposition party, National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has described the prosecution of its national chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, as a “politically-motivated persecution”.

According to the NDC chief scribe, the Akufo-Addo led government is an intolerant and vindictive one, trying hard to gag its members.

Asiedu Nketia noted that, the party is aware of the frivolous, trumped up and illogical charges brought against its officials as part of a misguided belief that partisan prosecution is a way of diverting attention from the dismal display in his government and maladministration that is fast driving the country into a ditch.

We wish ab initio, to place on record, our total belief in the rule of law and the need to fight wrongdoing in society. We wish, however, to condemn in no uncertain terms, the politically-motivated persecution of our officials, cynically disguised as lawful prosecution”.

“We are aware that the frivolous, trumped up and illogical charges brought against our officials form part of a grand scheme by an increasingly intolerant and vindictive Nana Akufo-Addo to gag the political opposition,” the statement signed by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah added.

Meanwhile, former president John Mahama is currently seated in the Commercial Division of the Accra High Court, along with some bigwigs of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to solidarise with the party’s National Chairman, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo and a deputy communication officer, Kwaku Boahen, who are being tried by the state for inciting violence against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa, and the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof Emmanuel Asante.
