5 facts about the late Maame Afia Konadu of Peace FM

A publication by YEN.com.gh earlier confirmed that popular radio personality Maame Afia Konadu formerly of Accra based radio station Peace FM has passed on.

Maame Afia, who is regarded as one of the veterans in radio, passed on in the United States of America at age 68.

YEN.com.gh brings to you five facts about Maame Afia Konadu known in real life as Henrietta Okyere-Twum.

1. She was married to a chief

Maame Afia Konadu was a family woman who managed a beautiful family until her demise.

She was married to a chief, Abompehene Barima Odakwa Bono Kyere II who passed on few years ago.

Their marriage was blessed with four children, all domiciled in the United States of America.

After resigning from Peace FM, she went to stay with her children in the USA until her demise on May 1, 2019.

2. She used to work at GBC

At a young age, Maame Afia Konadu became a teacher but soon moved to take on an opportunity in the media industry.

She first worked at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation where she worked in the Akan department.

Due to her fluency in the Akan language, she became one of the top broadcasters of GBC.

She hosted programs there until her exit.

3. Peace FM poached Maame Afia Konadu from GBC

When Osei Kwame Despite established Peace FM in 1999, they convinced some already known broadcasters to join the station.

At the time, Peace FM was the only private radio station broadcasting in the Akan language.

Not long after the station was established, Maame Afia Konadu was poached from GBC.

Kwame Despite must have offered her a mouthwatering deal to leave a government media firm GBC to his private media firm Peace FM.

4. Afia Konadu was known as the mother of Peace FM

After her entry into Peace FM, Maame Afia Konadu worked diligently over the years to become one of the station's most successful broadcasters.

She was already a broadcaster so Kwame Despite did not hesitate to thrust the station's work in her care.

She was one of the high ranking workers and interviewers anytime a new broadcaster was going to be brought on board.

She worked for over 15 years with Peace FM, serving in several managerial capacities before retiring in 2015.

She hosted popular programs like Wo Haw Ne Sɛn? and Asomdwoe Nkomo which sought to help Ghanaians who were facing challenges in life.

She was affectionately called the 'Mother of Peace FM' even after he resignation.

5. She trained most of the top Peace FM media personalities

Maame Afia Konadu was one of the few media personnel that Kwame Despite employed first after he established Peace FM in 1999.

She was employed before most of the top broadcasters that we listen to on Peace FM today.

Since she was already in the media industry especially coming from a renowned broadcasting house the GBC, Maame Afia Konadu was just the right person to undertake in-house training for staff.

The likes of Kwame Sefa Kayi, Fiifi Banson, Asare Brako Abatey, Kojo Dickson, Sekyere Poporo Boateng among others passed through the hands of Maame Afia Konadu.
