Roger Mayweather - a former boxing champion and trainer to his nephew, Floyd Mayweather - has passed away at the age of 58.

According to Sport24, Mayweather had a close relationship with his uncle.

"My uncle was one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring," he said.

The unbeaten boxing legend said revealed his uncle, who had been diagnosed with diabetes, had been battling with his health for years.

Mayweather added:

"Unfortunately, his health was failing him for several years and now he can finally rest in peace. Roger meant the world to me, my father Floyd snr, my uncle Jeff, our whole family, everyone in and around the Mayweather Boxing Gym and the entire boxing world."

Floyd Mayweather Promotions shared announced Roger's death on Twitter. The post read:

"We are saddened with the recent news of Roger Mayweather’s passing. Our hearts go out to the Mayweather family and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. We thank you all for the outpouring of love and support during this time. Roger’s spirit lives on with us forever."

Roger was a two-time champion who won world titles at super featherweight and super lightweight.

He won 59 matches in almost two decades and some of his notable fights were against Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell Whitaker.

"Roger was a great champion and one of the best trainers in boxing," Mayweather said.

Earlier this year, YEN.com.gh reported that Floyd Mayweather's ex-lover and mother to his three children, Josie Harris, has been confirmed dead. Harris was found dead at her home in Valencia, California on the night of Monday, March 9.

According to TMZ, the mother of Floyd's three kids was pronounced dead after police found her unresponsive inside her car at around 9.30pm.

The 40-year-old's death did not appear to be a homicide case and police treated it as a death investigation as opposed to her being killed.
