Champions League: UEFA confirm competition will return and end in Cologne

- Champions League will return from August 7 following confirmation from UEFA

- The quarterfinal of the Champions League and semis will be only one leg

- UEFA also announced that the final of the Champions League will be on August 23

UEFA have on Wednesday, June 17, announced that the suspended Champions League competition will return and it will be completed via a mini tournament from August 7.

Champions League were suspended alongside all the Leagues in Europe due to the disturbance and threat of coronavirus in the whole world.

And now that League games have returned in England, Spain and Germany, UEFA came to the conclusion that they should resume the Champions League.

As it is now, the remaining last 16 games will be played at their original venues before changes from the last eight of the competition.

The big changes made by UEFA now is that there won't be second fixture again from the quarterfinal stages which will be played in Lisbon from August 12.

Also, the semifinals of the Champions League will be only one fixture and the final will be played on August 23 in Cologne.

Meanwhile, the quarter-finals in the Europa League will similarly be played over one-leg in four German cities: Cologne, Duisburg, Düsseldorf and Gelsenkirchen between the 10-21 August, with the final in Cologne on August 21.

As with the Champions League, the venues for the remaining last-16 games will be decided in due course, but will be held over the 5-6 August.

Liverpool won the Champions League last season beating Tottenham in the final, while Chelsea lifted the Europa League beating Arsenal in Baku.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Willian has reportedly been in contact with Man United as the Brazilian's contract at Chelsea set to end this summer, reports from France claim.

The 31-year-old will become a free agent at the end of the season and the Blues are not willing to offer another three-year deal.

Brazilian winger is understood to be hesitant to sign a short-term deal at Stamford Bridge due to fears about getting injured before the season finally comes to an end.

According to France Football, the Red Devils and Willian's agent Kia Joorabchian have met in a bid to land the pacy winger at Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid and PSG have also been linked with the former Shakthar Donestk star as both clus are willing to offer him a three-year deal.
