The electoral fortunes of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta region has just received a massive setback.

It follows the defection of over a hundred members of the party in the Keta constituency of the region to join the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Starr FM reported that the group severed their relationship with the NDC on Monday, November 23, 2020.

“We were made to believe they would work on behalf of people like us and not just few who…had the connections and privileges to meet those at the top,” Akafia said.
“We have seen the weak leadership qualities of the executives and parliamentary candidate here in Keta. We realised they have lost their identity and vision as a political party.
“In light of these, we are announcing to the entire world our decision to renounce our membership from the National Democratic Congress with immediate effect,” he added.

Akatia further stated the massive developmental projects being undertaken by President Nana Akufo-Addo in the region cannot be overemphasized, citing the construction of the Keta Port among others.

“All these were not done under the leadership of John Mahama and the NDC who always referred to the Volta region as its World Bank,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia called on Ghanaians to massively reject the presidential candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming general elections.

Speaking at the commissioning of a Nursing Training College at Nkanchina in the Kpandai District of the Northern region, Bawumia said the former president is woefully incompetent to be the president of Ghana again.
