Top police officer, nine others charged with high treason over plot to kill President Akufo-Addo

- Should they be found guilty, all ten will face the death penalty
A Senior Police Officer, ACP Benjamin Agordzo, and nine others have been charged with the highest crime of the land, high treason - punishable by death.
The Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, says the accused persons between June 2018 to September 2019 conspired to overthrow the NPP government. According to him, they even conspired to kill President Akufo-Addo.
These accused persons include; Dr. Mac Palm, Donyo Kafui, Bright Alan Debrah, Johannes Zikpi, WO II Esther Saan, Corporal Seidu Abubakar, Corporal Ali Solomon and Sylvester Akankpewu and Senior military officer Colonel Samuel Kojo Gameli.
Meanwhile, all accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges of High treason, conspiracy to commit High treason and abetment of high treason.
The Attorney General added that the accused persons in furtherance of their objective manufactured guns and ammunitions. They also intended to jam transmission of all media organizations except the state broadcaster GBC and capture key state actors.
Crime at Kasoa
Nigerians at Kasoa in the Central Region are the cause of 60 percent of all crime cases in the community. This has been revealed by the Chief of the Nigerian community, Kessington Oledo.
Speaking at the dialogue on national security in Ghana, Oledo explained that police chiefs at Kasoa have contacted him countless times on the development.
“You see, this is a very delicate issue and like you said, references have been made to Nigerians particularly, which are very true because when you go to Kasoa, you see instances where; like I was with the chief of police at Millennium City and he told me: ‘Chief, you have to do something about this; every 10 reported cases at the police station is 6/10 of Nigerians’. You have six cases of Nigerians in every 10 cases reported at the police station; why is that so?” he lamented.
According to him, officials from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) allegedly extort monies from these Nigerians who usually stay illegally in the country.
“From my observation and analysis, I noticed that when you see people and notice that these people are unqualified to live in our society but you can’t take the opportunity [to deal with them] because you are making some corner money from it, then you are constituting a nuisance to the society yourself”, he complained.
Hike in money rituals
Founder of the Alabaster International Ministries has decried the spate of money rituals in the country. Prophet Kofi Oduro has remarked that many young men are exchanging their mothers for a specific car brand – Toyota Camry.
His remarks follows the killing of a 10-year-old teenager by his teenage friends at Kasoa in the Central Region.
“It is foolishness for you to sacrifice your mother in money rituals for a Toyota Camry. Riches do not last forever but a mother’s love does. You will forever feel pain and regret if you ever think or do any such thing,” he warned.
Kasoa ritual killing
Angry residents of Amanase in Suhum in the Eastern Region invaded the shrine of the fetish priestess allegedly involved in the ghastly ritual murder of 10-year-old Ishmael Mensah.
Sources close to the development told YEN.com.gh that the irate residents were at the shrine to burn it but for the timely intervention of the police.
According to sources, the residents were in the company of the chief of the town, Osabarima Obengfo Addo Agyekum, who issued a 3-day ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police to arrest the priestess.
“It is only now that we’ve understood the gravity of their activities to the extent of taking a life in the name of giving money to the youth for that matter.
“My children have shown that there is too much fear around,” one of the irate residents was quoted as saying.
“The whole world has heard bad news about Amanase… We need to be angry,” the Assemblyman, Paul Som Abedi, added.
The Ofaakor District Magistrate Court remanded into police custody the two teenagers who allegedly killed the 10-year-old.
Felix Nyarko, 15, and Nicholas King, 18 on Saturday, April 3, reportedly lured and killed the 10-year-old.
Their remand is to allow the police to conduct more investigations into the matter.
“It is hard for me,” the 10-year-old's father stated in a Metro TV interview.
According to him, he knows one of the guys who murdered his son “very well” and that suspect and his child were great friends to the extent that the latter gave the former one of his two bicycles.
“The boy even eats from my house. If someone should tell me this boy will have such intention towards my son, I will never believe it,” he stated.
Abdallah warned that if the suspects are not severely punished, “Kasoa will be chaotic.”
