17-Year-Old Girl Found Alive on Boat Wandering at Sea for over Three Weeks

- A teenager has been escaped from one of the biggest migrant boats tragedy

A young girl has escaped what has been described as one of the biggest boat tragedies involving migrants at sea.

The 17-year-old girl was recently found alive aboard a boat that floated at sea with no direction for more than three weeks, according to BBC.

Daily Beast reports that the girl identified as Aicha was one of the few persons that survived the Canary Islands sea tragedy - only three persons made it alive.

It however took Aicha 10 days of medical attention before she regained full consciousness.

The Ivory Coast teen who had left her hometown in November 2020 en route to Mauritania was rescued by an unidentified crew of the Spanish Airforce, with whom she'd be staying for the time being.

It is said that the only person that had knowledge of the dangerous journey she had embarked on was her elder sister. It was not however stated if the said elder sister consented or made any frantic effort to dissuade her.

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh previously reported that tragedy struck in Niger as 28 persons lost their lives in a boat mishap.

Ahmed Inga, Director-General (DG) of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), had made this confirmation in a statement in Minna on Sunday, May 9, NAN and Premium Times report.

According to him, the occupants of the boat were 100 passengers coming from Zumba from Tija village of Munya local government area of the state. Inga said the incident happened on Saturday, May 8, at about 6pm, 50 metres to their destination when the boat hit a stump of a tree and broke.
