Police Officer Killed After Gunfight With Armed Robbers Attacking Mobile Money Vendor At Ejura

A police officer has died after an attempt to stop a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

The Ghana Police Service announced that the officer who died during the incident on October 9, 2023, was General Sergeant Ahmed Kamal.

Kamal died from gunshot wounds sustained during the gunfight with the robbers.

He was pronounced dead on arrival after he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police also said one other of its officers, who remains unnamed, also sustained gunshot wounds.

Police arrested two suspected armed robbers, Alhaji Wahab Suleiman and Ibrahim Abubakari.

The two also sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment under police watch.

One other person is reportedly on the run following the robbery attack.

Police officer killed in bullion van attack

A police officer was killed at Ablekuma Fan Milk during a robbery of a bullion van robbery on June 14, 2023.

YEN.com.gh reported that the slain officer on duty was a Lance Corporal, Callistus Amoah.

The attack occurred at a Star Oil fuel station, and the officer died from wounds sustained from gunshots by the robbers.

According to reports, the robbers followed the bullion van to the Star Oil fuel station, where the shoot-out occurred.

Funeral held for slain officer

A funeral service for Callistus Amoah was held on July 15, 2023.

Notable attendees included the current Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare.

Callistus Amoah was posthumously promoted from Lance Corporal to General Corporal, which took effect from June 22, 2023.

His widow also paid tribute to him, citing his commitment to his Christian faith.

Suspected robber collapses in cells

A suspect in the bullion robbery fainted while in police cells and was taken to the Police Hospital.

The suspect, Hope Osaze, collapsed ahead of a court appearance.

Four suspects were arrested following the robbery.
