Here's all you need to know about the new 5 cedis note and why the Big Six are off it

The Bank of Ghana in commemoration of the Ghana@60 anniversary has issued a new GHc 5 banknote which went on circulation today.

Here are all the features of the new note.

The new banknote displays and an engraved portrait of Dr Gyegyir Aggrey one of Ghana’s most famed educationist, missionary and teacher.

It maintains the colour blue, the same as its predecessor

And has a picture of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah on the reverse side of the note.

Also illustrated on the banknote are gold bars, cocoa pods and cowry shells all notable items in Ghana.

Both the old and the new 5ghc note will circulate simultaneously

The new note is a bit smaller in size though as compared to the new one and contains quite a host of modern security features which include a security tread, watermarks, tactile marks, optically variable ink and iridescent bank.

It also displays for the first time in Ghana a QR code which is link to a special page on the bank of Ghana website.
