Under the constitution, a president is limited to a maximum of two four-year terms and cannot serve more than two terms, whether successive or separated.

A vice-president who assumes the presidency due to the president's death, resignation, or permanent incapacitation may run for two full terms only if more than half of the predecessor's term had expired.

Otherwise, the VP can only run for one full term.
