Police and paramedics rushed to the scene, but the famous actress was pronounced dead.
The actress appeared on numerous films and soaps operas but switched to music in recent years and had recorded five music albums before her death.
No arrests have been made, and it is not clear who killed Mendoza and their motive.

The family was at their carwash business when three masked men kidnapped them before taking them to a safe house.
They were beaten before being released hours later.
Kenyan actor shot
In other news, YEN.com.gh reported that Kenyan actor Nagi Sammy Njuguna was bedridden in a hospital in the US after being shot in an unprovoked attack in South Carolina.
The incident happened the same day his scene from the movie "Black as Night" went viral. Shot three times.
In a post on Facebook, Nagi explained that he was leaving a gas station off Broad River when someone fired at him.
He said it was hard to understand the motive of the shooting as he did nothing to deserve it but remained thankful to God for saving his life.
"I've undergone two surgeries," the thespian revealed.
He added that after spending weeks in the hospital, he was seeking help towards hospital expenses and physical therapy bills as the incident had stopped his work and taken a significant toll on him physically and mentally.
He set up a GoFund account to help with contributions.
