A brilliant lady, Maria Aretha James, has joined the list of persons with doctoral degrees after she earned her PhD in Occupational Therapy.

The 24-year-old earned her doctorate from Towson University, where she also received the programme's ''Leadership and Advocacy'' award.

Making history with the academic milestone

The Antigua and Barbuda native was one of only two Black doctoral students in her class of 20 persons, said REAL News.

Making her family proud

James' family is still basking in the glow of her sterling achievement at the prestigious university. Her relatives are not surprised by her accomplishment at an early age because she has always been a brilliant woman.

Before pursuing her doctoral degree, James received her bachelor's degree in Health Sciences from Oakwood University in Alabama.

The newly minted doctor's thesis focused on ''culturally responsive care for adolescents with complex trauma''.

Brilliant African-American Girl is First Black Valedictorian

Still on education, YEN.com.gh reported that Taryn Thomas made history as the first Black valedictorian in her school's 138-year history.

She joined hundreds to graduate from Beaumont High School with pride as she imprinted her name in the sands of time.

The prodigy bemoaned inequality and stereotypes she faced in school in her valedictory speech.

Also, YEN.com.gh reported that after three years of law school, Bernice Hodge, Esq, made herself proud by clocking a laudable milestone as she becomes a lawyer.

In a LinkedIn post, the young lady celebrates the achievement and significant stage in her life as she recalled the journey. Besides committing years to her studies in law school, Hodge recounted that she put in 495 hours of swotting for the bar.

''After three years of law school, 495 hours of studying for the bar (yes, I counted lol), and two days of sitting for the bar. I am a lawyer,'' she said.
