As the rainy season just passed, and Ghana is going through a bit of the hot season, one thing everyone keeps in mind, is how to stay refreshed during the day.
With the sun blazing down on you and a ‘pure water’ seller or Fanyogo seller nowhere in sight, there are very few options to ensure that the burning thirst you’re feeling goes away.
These are some local drinks that help cool you down on a hot day:
1. Sobolo. This delicious Hibiscus leaf- infused tea drink is now as popular as water. The drink can be found in many local provision stores or carried around along the main streets.
2. Asana. This drink is made from fermented corn and sugar, and can be found mainly in the market areas. Add some drops of milk and a lot of ice, and that is one delicious cool drink on the go.
3. Brukina. This is a healthy drink made from fresh cow milk and millet. The drink is found in all commercial bus stations.
4. Iced Kenkey (Maske). Just like the name sounds, the drink is made by “dissolving” kenkey into fluid form with lots of water, with sugar, milk, and whatever else you fancy. This has fast become a popular and sought after drink in most bus stations.
