2023 WASSCE: 15-year-old Nigerian student gets 9 A's, clears his SAT, wins scholarship

• A brilliant Nigerian boy, Nnamdi Ugochukwu Obiadigwo, has passed the 2023 WASSCE, UTME, and SAT in style.
• He had nine distinctions in WASSCE and 353 in his UTME, where he scored as high as 99 in Physics
• Nnamdi's family is seeking a full scholarship for the brilliant boy even though he already has 40% off his tuition

A 15-year-old Nigerian, Nnamdi Ugochukwu Obiadigwo, from Anambra, has passed his 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with flying colours.

A message sent to Legit.ng showed that the boy got A1 in all nine subjects, including further mathematics, English language, and mathematics.

The young student has won several awards to show he has always been a brilliant boy. A part of the message read:

"He was the best graduating student of BOSSS Bishop okoye Spiritans secondary school. (Divergent Set) Obigbo in Port Harcourt with 18 awards."

Apart from that, he has won and represented his secondary school in competitions. Nnamdi's dream is to study mechatronics engineering at the university level. On his scholarship, the exclusive message said:

"Has gotten 40% deduction and by virtue of 9As he has made again. Hopeful of getting 100% tuition fee free."

Nnamdi's JAMB score

Nnamdi also passed all the other exams he sat well. In the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), he scored 353. The teenager also had in1420/1600 Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

A breakdown of his UTME score revealed he had:

• Use of English - 64
• Mathematics - 98
• Physics - 99
• Chemistry - 92

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh earlier reported that a Nigerian teacher, Chimaijem Success, shared some of the results of his students who did very well in the recently released WAEC.

Taking to his Facebook page, the man congratulated all his candidates who did well. He thanked God for the amazing outing.

Another 15-year-old who passed WAEC

Similarly, a 15-year-old Nigerian girl, Ike Chinonso Rita, came out with flying colours in her 2023 WASSCE as she cleared her results with multiple A's.

Of the nine subjects she sat for, she only scored one B; the rest were distinctions. She had A1 in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and further mathematics.

The 2023 WASSCE breakdown

Patrick Areghan, Nigeria's head for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), had earlier said a total of 1,621,884 candidates registered for this year's edition of the exam.

He, however, revealed that 1,613,733 candidates sat for the examination.

Areghan said:

“A total of 1,287,920 candidates, representing 79.81 %, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

“Of this number, 616,914, that is 47.9%, were male candidates, while 671,006, that is 52.1%, were female candidates.

“The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for School Candidates in 2022, that is, those who obtained credit and above in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, was 76.36%, thus, there is a 3.45% decrease in performance in this regard.

The WAEC head in Nigeria also said the exam body withheld results of 262,803 candidates for alleged examination malpractices.

The figure, according to him, represents 16.29% of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination.

“The reasons for this are not far-fetched. Candidates are no longer ready to study, they lack self-confidence and preparations for examinations are poor. There is over-reliance on the so-called ‘Expo’, which is non-existent.

“Candidates got frustrated when they got to the examination hall and discovered that all they had celebrated was fake. This has pitiably led to some of them failing the examination.
