19-Year-Old Saves Her Parents’ Shop From Closing Down, Uses TikTok Videos to Promote Their Business

A 19-year-old lady, Annabelle King, has leveraged the power of social media to help revive her parents' shop that was about to close down.

Daily Mail reports that before the pandemic, the store named Sticky always attracted many customers as tourists were often amazed about how lollies are made with hands from scratch.

The business now hires more people.

Like other tourist-dependent businesses, the store’s revenue dropped significantly following lockdown in Australia.

As a way to help her 50-year-old father, David, Annabelle started using platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram to stream how the lollies are made.

It became popular

Their videos soon gained popularity online that famous American rapper, Snoop Dog, shared them. What was a desperate last attempt to help the business soon turned the outfit into a very profitable one.

The TikTok account opened for Sticky gained over a million followers in its first month. The company is set to turn over $1 million.

Speaking with Business Insider, Annabella said:

“I spend between two and five hours each day turning what I film in the shop into something interesting.”

We were desperate

Her father said what is perceived as an act of genius now was borne out of desperation then. Instead of sacking staff because of the pandemic, the company is now hiring more.

With the power of social media, the customers shut out by the border closure are reconnected back to the store.

Son promotes mother's business on social media

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh earlier reported that a young man, Hassan, used his social media influence to promote his mum's business and the reception has been great.

In a post on Wednesday, June 2, the young man shared a video of his mother's shop as he said she deals in provisions like biscuits and chocolates at the wholesale level.

Hassan revealed that the woman's business is in the Agege area of Lagos state as he asked his followers to patronise his family's venture.

In the short clip, the man briefly filmed his mum before panning the camera to showcase the wares they have on display.
