Amanda, a 32-year-old human resources specialist, and Steve, a 29-year-old musician, exchanged vows in front of loved ones in September 2022.

Remarrying each other

However, the couple faced a setback upon realising their marriage license had gone missing after their honeymoon in Iceland, leaving their union unrecognised by the law.

Determined to make their marriage official, Amanda and Steve, who had rescued Momo while she was pregnant and abandoned, decided to recreate their wedding ceremony.

Speaking to New York Post, Amanda said:

“Momo is the first cat that we got together, so she’s very special, having her as our witness made the wedding fun and lighthearted.”

Their beloved cat played a pivotal role. They took advantage of Colorado's self-solemnisation marriage law, which permits couples to wed without an ordained minister.

Momo, the wedding witness

Amanda emphasised that self-solemnising was the ideal way to solidify their commitment, and the cost of obtaining the legal documentation for their wedding do-over was a modest KSh 4,800.

Momo's paw print on the paperwork symbolised their love and served as a memorable seal of their union. Amanda shared that Momo's ability to pen her signature was not coincidental.
