Where is Wairapapa?

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Geof Walker said that when he arrived in Uganda, he was a single and carefree man. Miriam, however, managed to turn all that around.

He also shared that, before moving to Uganda, from Wairarapa in New Zealand he was a renowned photographer, and he still works as one to this day.

"From arriving in Uganda in December 2016, single, no kids, to arriving back in Aotearoa, New Zealand on December 2023 with a partner and four beautiful children to start a new adventure in a new country, in a new year," said Walker.

Although the family is now safely settled in New Zealand, things were not so rosy for them when they started planning to travel in 2020.

"Friends … fours years after beginning a journey to reach Aotearoa/New Zealand, our family of one kiwi and five Ugandans have arrived," said Walker.
"The pandemic delays left us empty, and today we need support to repay the loans taken to get us here.. please," he added on Twitter.

After learning about their plight, a woman identified as Hellen Clark set up a Give A Little page to help them raise KSh 5 million; the money is supposed to help them start their lives.

"Check out this page for Geoff Walker and his family who have just repatriated from northern Uganda to the Wairarapa. Geoff has been well known as a photographer in the Wairarapa. Repatriation is a slow and expensive process, and support is badly needed to enable the family to refund repatriation costs to the New Zealand Government," she said.
"The family arrived with a minimum of personal possessions and no assets. If people give a little it will help a lot,"she added.

Before they left, the couple and their kids spent some time with their family members .

"The last days of 2023 our family fled parted Gulu, Northern Uganda for MurchisonFalls National Park then went to Entebbe, flying to Addis, Singapore to end the year in Auckland before starting 2024 in Wairarapa. New Year, new country, new Life!" said Walker.
