Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has slammed the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by President John Mahama, for appointing Northerners as District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Lawson TV on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the politician asserted that it makes no sense for Ashantis to be ignored on their own land in the appointment of DCEs.

He further claimed that anytime the NPP is out of power, Ghanaians who bear Ashanti or Akan names suffer under the reins of an NDC-led government.

“Whenever we are out of power and you bear an Ashanti or Akan name, you suffer in this country. The DCEs in Asanteman, what are they like? It’s an insult to the people of Asante because Nana Akufo-Addo or the New Patriotic Party would not dare put forward such names in Tamale or Bolga,” he said.
“If you are an Akan in this country and you call a constituency chairman or secretary but, for some reason, they cannot answer, and you say because of that you won’t vote or would vote against the NPP, then it’s not the NPP that you have voted against; you have rather betrayed yourself,” he noted.
John Boadu, who is aspiring to become the National Chairman of the NPP, made these remarks during an interview with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV’s Ghana Se Sen morning show.

"Mention one Akan who is MMD/CE in any of the five Northern Regions, Oti or Volta."
@AfrifaBa Budu Amasaman II also said:
"Just like here in GAR you can’t make a non Ga an MCE or DCE. Stop twisting facts as if he’s saying anything bad !"

"But it's ok for an Asante to be an MP in other non Asante areas?"
@Smith Oppong also commented:
"Most of the MMDCEs appointed in the Ashanti Region were former NDC parliamentary candidates. They contested and invested significant resources, fully aware that the region is an NPP stronghold. So, you can’t reasonably expect the government to bypass them when making MMDCE appointments—then give those positions to whom?"
