Manchester United have parted ways with sporting director Dan Ashworth after just five months.
The decision became official after the club lost to Nottingham Forest in a Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
The 3-2 loss was Ruben Amorim's second as a Premier League boss following the 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Wednesday.
When did Dan Ashworth begin his role at Manchester United?
Ashworth began his role on July 1 following an extended period of gardening leave after quitting Newcastle United. The Athletic reports that Manchester United instigated the departure, but the decision became mutual in the end.
The report adds that controlling owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had a huge say in the decision for Ashworth's departure.
Ashworth was responsible for football performance, recruitment and operations. He oversaw the arrivals of Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs De Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Joshua Zirkzee.
However, he was conspicuously sidelined in the hiring of Amorim as the new manager last month as club CEO Omar Berrada took charge of the negotiations to bring the former Sporting Lisbon man to Old Trafford.
Who is Dan Ashworth?
The 53-year-old is a seasoned football administrator who started his work a West Bromwich Albion. He then worked as a technical director at the Football Association (FA), where he is credited with the World Cup victories at the junior level.
He moved to Brighton in 2019 and worked in a similar role until 2022. He moved to Newcastle United, where he worked until United paid a compensation amount to the Mapies to secure his services early this year.
Andre Onana angers Man United fans
YEN.com.gh has also reported that Andre Onana has received his fair share of criticism from fans following Manchester United's surprise loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The Red Devils were defeated 2-0 at Old Trafford, much to the dismay of the supporters who were also angered by Onana's time-wasting tactics while Man United were losing.
