Ultimately, the contest was settled by a moment of brilliance, as Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning free-kick sealed victory for Arne Slot’s men.

Despite it being early in the season, Arsenal are already battling injury setbacks, with Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz missing from the matchday squad and Martin Odegaard only fit enough for the bench.

That shortage of firepower was evident, as the Gunners managed just one shot on target across the 90 minutes.

The defeat at Anfield marked their first loss to a fellow top-six side in two seasons, and many fans pointed to the absence of Partey as a key factor.

Arsenal fans make Partey claim

According to an Arsenal fan, Partey thrives in big games, and his absence was sorely felt as Arsenal fell to Arne Slot’s men, as he is clear of Martin Zubimendi.

@Roomainor posted:

"What if Arsenal unbeaten run against the big six is because of Thomas Partey?"

@ClintonEleto commented:

"Zubimendi is nowhere near the quality of Thomas Partey, like nowhere near."

@blair_kizza added:

"Partey > Zubimendi, and it’s not even close. He’s five times the player, and our team was clearly better with him. Zubi isn’t an upgrade from Partey!"

Viktor Gyokeres stats emerge after Arsenal suffer defeat to Liverpool

"Zubim has been a setback for our team. Because of him,Rice has had to play as a deeplying midfielder, and MLS isn't getting game time. Zubi can't replicate what Partey brought to the team. Partey gave his teammates confidence and control,which we've been missing for a while now."

@YoshiTorunaga mentioned:

"People want Zubimendi to be better than Partey so bad. They'll never admit he just isnt on Partey's level yet. It's okay, he doesn't have to be. The manager should work on making the team more fluid in attack. He's refusing to even use his attackers now. 4 CBs and 3 DMs?!"

Meanwhile, as Arsenal fans longed for Partey during the Liverpool clash, the Ghanaian midfielder was shining for his new club Villarreal in La Liga in their 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo.

Partey came off the bench in the second half, replacing Alberto Moleiro. In just under half an hour, he made his presence felt in midfield.
