Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres’ performance came under scrutiny after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, and his post-match stats paint a worrying picture.
The Gunners were undone in the 83rd minute when Dominik Szoboszlai produced a sensational free-kick from 32 yards, curling it into the top corner past David Raya.

The clash between the two title contenders was tight and cagey, and both sides struggled to create clear chances. Alisson and Raya were forced into just three saves combined.
Liverpool, however, stands out as the only team to have won all three of their opening Premier League fixtures this season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the 2025/26 season after beating Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford on opening day and thrashing Leeds 5-0 last weekend.
Gyokeres, who netted twice in the Leeds rout to open his Arsenal account, endured a difficult afternoon at Anfield.
He was left isolated against Manchester United on the opening day, and the same happened to the forward at Anfield.
Gyokeres stats against Liverpool emerge
The Swedish striker had 17 touches, failed to register a single shot, completed just five of seven passes, four in the final third, and lost all three of his aerial duels, per Sport Bible.
Arsenal’s No.14 struggled to make an impact in the first half at Merseyside, as highlighted by journalist Gregg Evans.
On X, Evans pointed out that just before half-time, Gyokeres had only two more touches than William Saliba, who had exited after just three minutes.
Gyokeres’ tough outing was compounded when he picked up a yellow card for a second-half trip, per GOAL.
Still, it remains early days for the £64 million summer signing from Sporting CP.
His highlights against the Reds immediately went viral, as seen in the video below:
The Swedish forward was prolific in Portugal, netting 87 goals across all competitions, including the Champions League, in just two seasons after departing Championship side Coventry.
One wrote:
"There is no point in having a striker if you're not going to create chances for him."
A second added:
"Nobody is passing to him. No chance being created. He's on his own."
And a third stated:
"The two big games away from home, games where you sign an expensive striker and he barely sees the ball, that has to change. It's not necessarily a Gyokeres problem, it is more so how we approach the play when he's the spearhead in these types of matches."

Gyökeres opens Arsenal tally
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Star forward Gyokeres opened his Arsenal account with a goal that helped the team claim the Emirates Cup, as Mikel Arteta’s side swept past Athletic Bilbao 3-0.
The Gunners finalised the £63.7 million signing of the Swedish international striker from Sporting Lisbon in late July, ending months of anticipation for a natural, out-and-out No. 9.
