4 reasons why Peter Amewu will be a successful energy minister

President Akufo-Addo’s decision to reshuffle his ministers and other appointees has come as no major surprise to many people.

The reshuffle appears to have been more about reassigning appointees to other positions rather than outrightly replacing them.

But one man whose reassignment has caught the attention of many is John Peter Amewu.

Having formally served as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Amewu has now been tasked to serve as energy minister, following the sacking of Boakye Agyarko.

For many people, this new appointment looks very challenging, however, he is a man who has shown that nothing is beyond him.

Below are 4 reasons why Mr. Amewu will be successful as energy minister:

1. He’s an expert in the energy sector

John Peter Amewu is in familiar territory as energy minister. This is because he is an expert in the energy sector, having been a policy analyst.

He is actually a co-founder of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP). His knowledge and expertise in the sector will therefore be brought to bear as minister.

Before engaging in full-time politics, Mr. Amewu worked as the Director of Policy and Research at ACEP where he provided pro-active and comprehensive policy related advice to support a variety of Government and Private Sector Projects. His contribution in providing solutions to the problems in the Energy Sector in Ghana has earned him both local and international acclamation and recognition.

2. His impeccable past record

Peter Amewu is one of the few ministers under the Nana Addo administration who has kept their reputation and competence intact till date.

He boasts an impeccable past record, which saw him thrive when he was appointed as minister for Lands and Natural Resources.

It was his time as minister that Ghana finally made strides with regards to the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. Therefore, if his achievements in the Lands Ministry is anything to go by, then he should have no problem succeeding in the Energy Ministry too.

3. He is arguably Akufo-Addo's best minister so far

It is controversial to pinpoint Peter Amewu as President Akufo-Addo’s best minister so far. But he, together with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, will definitely slug it out for that claim.

Usually modest and hardworking, Mr. Amemu has been devoid of controversy and scandals during his tenure as lands minister.

Such a personality makes him the perfect fit for the energy ministry, which is currently in the spotlight over the controversial AMERI deal.

4. Ghanaians love him for waging a strong fight against galamsey

Again due to his commitment to achieving results, Peter Amewu is a man who is widely loved across the country.

His firm stance against illegal mining gave Ghanaians a toast of a man who would give up everything to ensure the right things are done.

Even though, the Energy Ministry may be looking tough at the moment, but Mr. Amewu’s commitment could be a trait that would make him successful.
