Trinity Theological Seminary Ghana programs and contacts

Trinity Theological Seminary is an interdenominational theological tertiary institution of learning with the purpose of offering counselling, teaching, guidance, Christian training as well as a platform where resource leaders are groomed for holistic ministry. It is situated on a 70-acre site which is seven miles away from Accra. The seminary is said to be one of the best leading ecumenical theological tertiaries that are based in Ghana, and it is co-sponsored by three denominations which are the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Methodist Church Ghana as well as the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

It is recorded that after the year 1967, two other churches came on board to join the institution which are the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and the joint Anglican Diocesan Council of Ghana, now known as the Accra Diocese. The Theological Seminary has been able to foster cross-cultural engagement as a result of the global exchange that exists between the institution’s students and foreign students, as well as academics visiting from across the world.

About the Trinity Theological Seminary

Trinity Theological Seminary was established in 1942. Its establishment was meant to serve as a theological training institution where people are groomed and equipped for the work of the ministry. The purpose of the theological seminary is to serve as a theological research center, especially for the Clergy and laity; train church workers for continuous personal and professional growth and development; and educate men and women for the ordained ministry both within and outside the church.

The theological institution which is said to have attained its charter is accredited with the National Accreditation Board (NAB) under the Ministry of Education of Ghana. Based on the information made available on the institution’s official website, the Seminary currently offers a total of nine courses. And interestingly, all the certificates, diplomas and degrees awarded by the theological institution are recognized, not only in Ghana, but at the international level.

Notable among the Alumni of the theological institute are Seth Senyo Agidi (current moderator of the General Assembly, Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana), CEO, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Kofi Koduah Sarpong, and Nicholas T. Clerk, a Ghanaian academic, public administrator and Presbyterian minister, among others.

Trinity Theological Seminary Ghana courses offered

Students of the Trinity Theological Seminary Ghana are taught on areas of biblical studies covering both the Old Testament and New Testament; History, Missions and Ecumenics; and Systematic Theology/Ethics. Their studies also focus on foreign and local languages like Greek, Hebrew, Ewe, Ga and Twi; and Pastoral and Practical Theology covering Homiletics, Pastoral care and Counseling, Christian Education, Evangelism and Church Growth, Liturgics and Field education.

PhD programme

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
  • Doctor of Ministry (DMin)

Master’s programme

  • Master of Theology (MTh)

This is a postgraduate research program designed for anyone who wishes to do higher theological work beyond the basic degree of BTh or MDiv. It is a program that lasts for two (2) years.

  • Master of Arts in Ministry (MAM)
  • Master of Divinity (MDiv)

Undergraduate programme

  • Bachelor of Theology

It is an undergraduate professional degree that combines both academic and professional structures. This programme requires 3-4 years to complete which is about 108 credit hours. But then, students who have backgrounds in theological ministerial studies from accredited institutions may be given exemptions of up to 36 credit hours.

Diploma programme

  • Diploma in Theology (Dip. Theo.)

This comprises modular and regular programmes. While the modular is a two-year programme requiring 48 credit hours to complete, the regular is an intensive three-year ministry training course consisting of a minimum of 78 credit hours of coursework involving 30 credits of core courses and 48 credits of electives.

Certificate courses

  • Certificate in Ministry (CIM)

This is a one-year programme. Students going into this usually require 30-36 credit hours to be able to complete it.

  • Certificate Course in Transformational Urban Leadership (CTUL)

It is a program designed for church workers who are willing to use the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to bring life-changing transformation to city dwellers in Ghana and elsewhere. It is a course suitable for Pastors and church leaders who are currently involved in an urban setting. Some of the subjects covered include The City in the Bible, Biblical Principles of Leadership, Theology of Marginalisation, Urban Realities and Spirituality, Biblical Principles of Community Transformation and Urban Evangelism and Church Planting. Students offering this course are expected to devote a total period of two consecutive weeks to it.

The structure of the institution fee is determined by the governing body of the seminary which reserves the right to modify tuition fees as and when appropriate.
