Zoomlion staff receive 'insulting' salary for eight months as rest of money 'locked' up with Menzgold

- Some aggrieved workers of Zoomlion have threatened to abandon their posts over unpaid salaries

- According to some of the workers, their superiors had invested their monies with embattled Menzgold leading to the delay in payments

- The workers have given their management a few days to pay them

The supervisors of Zoomlion in the Brong Ahafo Region are being accused by the workers of the company for investing their salaries into Menzgold for which reason they have not been paid for seven months running.

According to a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on MyNewsGh.com, checks from the region showed that only GHC 38 had hit the accounts of the street sweepers since March 2018.

As a result, workers of the waste management company have decided not to no longer keep calm about their suffering.

Hajia Ramadu who is believed to be the leader of the aggrieved sweepers, alleged that their supervisors had investment their monies with Menzgold which had made it difficult for them to pay salaries.

The workers, numbering over 60, described the payment as “insulting” and vowed to demonstrate against the company if the discrepancies were not resolved in the shortest possible time.

According to the report following the complaints, Zoomlion’s Brong Ahafo Regional Public Jobs Officer, George Manu, indicated that their staff were going to be paid “soon”.

“I have not been able to send my daughter who has gained admission to a senior high school in the Ashanti region because I have been unable to buy her personal effects”, one Zoomlion staff lamented.

The workers have warned they would abandon their jobs and embark on a sit down strike if their accounts are not credited with the full amounts by the close of the week.

If the allegation is to be believed, it will mean the workers would have to wait a lot more as the embattled gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited, said it has reached an agreement with its customers to scrap the payment of dividends to them.

The agreement is said to have been reached at a crunch meeting between Menzgold, customers and stakeholders on October 7, 2018 at Korkdam Hotel.

This therefore means that there would be no payment of dividends as earlier suggested.

The meeting, held between the board, management of Menzgold and customers numbering over 100 from all branches nationwide, was said to have been chaired by the Board Chairman of Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Yaw Offei, Corporate Manager, as well as a Menzgold International Consultant.
