7 grabbed by cops in Salaga as youth burn down NPP office over regional capital

Seven persons have been arrested in connection with the burning of the Salaga South New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency office by a section of the youth Tuesday February 12,2019.

The youth, according to 3news.com, also pulled down an undisclosed number of party billboards in the town.

The youth had indicated their next point of attack was the office of the municipal assembly and the residence of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mohammed Tamimu.

However, the effort of the mob was truncated by the swift move of the East Gonja Police Command.

The arrest was contained in a police report signed by the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer DSP Yussif Mohammed Tanko.

The police report captured: “The suspects were quickly identified and picked up in the early hours of Wednesday February 13 upon intelligence to assist in investigation”.

DSP Tanko assured residents of adequate security police indicating that calm has been restored. He called on the general public to assist the police with relevant information to aid in their investigation.

The mob is displeased that the newly created region of Savannah would Damongo instead of Salaga.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that hundreds of aggrieved residents in the Nkoranza municipality of the newly-created region of Bono East on Monday, February 11, 2019, hit the streets to register their displeasure with government of the siting of the new region's capital.

The protest of the people is over what they have described as a sidelining of the Nkoranza township as the capital of the new region.
