Brilliant SHS graduate with 7As gets full scholarship after Akufo-Addo’s intervention

Following a report by YEN.com.gh about Sackey Abednego, a senior high school graduate who took to social media to appeal to Ghanaians for help to fund his tertiary education, the presidency has intervened.
President Nana Akufo-Addo, directed the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat to issue a full scholarship to Abednego Sackey after some persons at the presidency drew the president’s attention to the teenager’s predicament following a report about his situation.
Despite completing the 2019 West African Examination Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with 7As and a B3, Sackey Abednego, a former student of Kade Senior Technical School, faced a real challenge of funding his tertiary education.
The native of Subriso, in the Eastern region, posted his plight on Facebook on September 28, 2019, asking benevolent individuals to come to his aid.
Abednego also disclosed that his predicament had been worsened after he lost his mother while he was still in school.

Following Sackey’s post on Facebook and a report by YEN.com.gh, the president was briefed after the post caught the attention of some persons at the presidency.
President Nana Akufo-Addo directed the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang, to invite Abednego Sackey and award him a full scholarship.
Sackey Abednego and his aunt were received by the registrar at his office on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.
Kingsley Agyemang, noted that as a government agency, the Scholarship Secretariat will ensure the teenager, who wants to study medicine, gains admission at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with full scholarship.
Citifmonline reports that Kingsley Agyemang, made a personal donation of GHC 1000.00 to the family of Abednego Sackey.
