Founder and head pastor at the International Central Gospel Church, Pastor Mensa Otabil, has clearly stated that there is absolutely nothing wrong with women wearing trousers designed for them.

Since time immemorial, there has been a debate as to why it is wrong for women to wear trousers.

This debate, particularly among some Christian denominations, have been considered very wrong as it is believed that trousers are mainly for men.

Making reference to the Bible, Pastor Otabil asked those who argue against women wearing trousers to make time and read Deuteronomy 22:5, which states: ‘A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this’.

Positing his opinion on the subject on Time with Pastor Mensa Otabil in a live Facebook discussion, the founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) quizzed: “What is trousers?"

During the live session, the preacher and teacher opined that in Jesus' days, men did not wear trousers but rather wore something close to maxi skirts because that was the culture then.

He added that culture changes and so there are trousers designed for women and there is nothing wrong if they wear them.

“In the days of Jesus, men did not wear trousers, they wore something close to maxi-skirts but these days, maxi-skirts are for women. So, culture changes and there are pants that are designed for women and it’s women’s clothing. When a woman wears those pants, they are not misrepresenting themselves as men which is what the passage in Deuteronomy is addressing,” he said.
