Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the economy under former President John Dramani Mahama, was so weak that he couldn’t even reduce the incessant power cuts popularly known as dumsor.

Addressing pressmen at the Jubilee House on Monday, May 4, 2020, Bawumia wondered how the NDC, whose administration could not handle power cuts, would be making comparisons with a global pandemic like the Coronavirus.

Bawumia added that the robustness of an economy is tested in a time of crisis. He cited an internally-generated crisis, which was dumsor under the NDC and an externally generated crisis - COVID-19, under the NPP.

He added that the dumsor crisis crippled the economy for four years citing various examples of increments of utility and cancellation of other incentives.

In comparison, he stated that President Akufo-Addo, on the other hand, has reduced utility prices as well as given incentives to well-deserving individuals.

“So the difference couldn’t be more stark between the leadership under a crisis under dumsor and that under the Coronavirus epidemic. So I ask a simple question, who will you trust in a time of crisis?
The answer, I will say, is very very clear. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has shown leadership and concern for ordinary Ghanaians," Bawumia said.

Former president Mahama last week claimed the economy under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo was weak and had been exposed in just one month by the Coronavirus pandemic, which has affected several countries around the world.
