This is according to a recent list compiled by Billboard, the popular global digital music charting and award platform.

Dubbed the Local Heroes, the list focuses on the most-watched homegrown artistes across Africa with the top artistes being listed for the 11 countries which were featured.

For Ghana, Shatta Wale emerged as the topmost having clocked 13.26 million views within the past one year.

Award-winning rapper Sarkodie came second after getting 11.72 million streams within the same period.

With 7.86 million streams, Stonebwoy took the third position while gospel singer Diana Hamilton and rapper/singer Kofi Kinaata coming fourth and fifth with 6.42 and 4.63 million streams respectively.

In declaring Shatta Wale as number one, Billboard's citation read: "Wale’s 2019 album is called Wonder Boy, and the 20-year-old singer-songwriter and actor seems determined to live up to that name. The country’s two biggest political parties have used his songs in campaigns; his 2018 album, Reign, hit No. 6 on Billboard’s Top World Albums chart; and in April, he organized the online Faith Concert to cheer up fellow Ghanaians during the COVID-19 pandemic."

After the news came up online, Shatta Wale shared a screenshot from Billboard's website saying: "The world says am No1 through statistics but Ghana music industry says am number Last …Na dat matter we deh try settle since 1960 Big up every shatta Movement fan ❤️❤️."

The latest feat comes barely one week after Shatta Wale got featured on a billboard at New York's famous Times Square.
