Alhaji Masawudu Slams Dr Mustapha Hamid Over NPP Vice Chairmanship Bid: "He's Arrogant"

The Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawudu, has criticised former National Petroleum Authority boss Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, describing his past conduct in office as dismissive and uncooperative.
Speaking on Atinka TV on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Alhaji Masawudu, popularly known as Chairman Buga, alleged that Dr Abdul-Hamid was difficult to engage during his tenure in public office.

“Someone like Mustapha Hamid was so arrogant. He never answered calls from the party’s national executives during his time as NPA Boss,” he claimed.
Chairman Buga's remarks come at a politically sensitive time, as internal contestations within the NPP begin to intensify.
Abdul-Hamid enters vice chairmanship race
Dr Abdul-Hamid has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Vice Chairman of the NPP, setting up what is expected to be a competitive race between himself and Masamudu, who is seeking re-election
He brings to the contest significant political experience, having previously served as Minister for Information as well as Minister for Zongo and Inner-City Development.
He also led the National Petroleum Authority, where he oversaw regulatory matters in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
NPP prepares for key internal elections
The upcoming NPP national executive elections are expected to play a crucial role in determining the party’s leadership structure ahead of future general elections.
Positions such as National Chairman, Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, and other key roles are contested, often attracting high-profile aspirants with strong grassroots and political backing.
Beyond electing leaders, the process serves as a test of cohesion within the party, as it seeks to reorganise and strengthen its base following ahead of the 2028 general elections.
